WORLD CUP RECORD: From 1930 to 1990s they were part of
Yugoslavia. They could not enter into 1994 WC qualifiers because they gained
admission into UEFA in June 1993, which was too late. From 1998 and first WC
tournament on which they could qualified they missed only one WC finals and it
was in 2010.
BEST RESULT: Croatian best result is from 1998, their first World Cup.
As debutant they managed to win 3rd place. In group stage they made two wins
and one lose. Croatia won in their first WC match against Jamaica. In second
match they were better then Japan while they lost from Argentina in third group
match. In first knock-out round Croatia faced Romania and went throught with
one goal win. In quarter-final they made amazing win against Germany. In next
round Croatia played against host nation France. Despite they took lead, France
came back and won it 2-1. In third place match Croatia beat Netherlands for
their best result at WC finals. Glory days for Croatian football.
