FOOTBALL FAMILIES ON FIFA WORLD CUP FINALS

Here I will represent you the football families of the FIFA World cup. Father / sons and brothers are most present but we also have nephews, sons or brothers in law, cousins etc.

To be on the list they had to bi part of their national teams in the FIFA WC finals as managers or players.

Not sure if this is a complete list but I did my best.

ADAN GODOY AND SON IN LAW CARLOS RIVAS (CHILE): Godoy represented Chile in two WCs: 1962 and 1966. His son in law was part of 1982 WC squad.

ALFONSO PORTUGAL AND SON IN LAW HUGO SANCHEZ (MEXICO): Portugal, a Mexican defender, played in the 1958 WC tournament. Sanchez, one of the most famous Mexican footballers, played in three world cups: 1978, 1986 and 1994.

BERT VAN MARWIJK AND SON IN LAW MARK VAN BOMMEL (NETHERLANDS): Bert was Netherlands coach at the 2010 WC final while Mark was one of the players. They reached the final where Spain was better. Mark was also part of the 2006 WC squad. 

BROTHERS ALLAWI, KHAHL AND KARIM (IRAQ): Both brothers represented Iraq in their only World cup in 1986. 

BROTHERS ALLCHURCH, IVOR AND LEN (WALES): Both were part of the 1958 World cup squad. 

BROTHERS ALLOFS, THOMAS AND KLAUS (WEST GERMANY): Both Allofs played as strikers. Thomas was part of a 1982 squad while Klaus played in Mexico four years later. 

BROTHERS AYEW, IBRAHIM, ANDRE AND JORDAN (GHANA): All three of them represented Ghana in WC finals. First two in 2010. Andre also played in 2014 along with the youngest of them Jordan.

BROTHERS BARESI, GIUSEPPE AND FRANCO (ITALY): The older Baresi is an Inter legend while Franco spent all career with Milan. Brothers were part of Azzurri in four finals but never together. From 1982 to 1994. Giuseppe played only in 1986 while his brother was an unused member of the 1982 WC winning squad but also played in 1990 and 1994 having missed a penalty during shootouts against Brazil in the final.

BROTHERS BARRETO, DIEGO AND EDGAR (PARAGUAY): Edgar was in Germany in 2006 and along with his older brother in South Africa 2010.

BROTHERS BIYIK, ANDRE KANA AND FRANCOIS OMAM (CAMEROON): Both Biyik brothers participated at the 1990 and 1994 WCs while Francois also participated in 1998. 

TWIN BROTHERS DEGEN, PHILIPP AND DAVID (SWITZERLAND): Both brothers were part of Switzerland in 2006.

TWIN BROTHERS MIRANCHUK, ALEKSEI AND ANTON (RUSSIA): The Miranchuk brothers represented Russia in 2018 on home soil. Aleksei only played against Uruguay while Anton didn't play at all.

HALF BROTHERS BOATENG, JEROME AND KEVIN-PRINCE (GERMANY / GHANA): Both were born in West Germany having the same father. The older one Kevin decided to play for his father country Ghana while Jerome selected Germany, his motherland. Jerome won WC in 2014 but also was in South Africa and Russia. Kevin played in 2010 and 2014. They faced each other in 2010 being the first brothers to play for opposite teams at the World cup.

TWIN BROTHERS DE BOER, RONALD AND FRANK (NETHERLANDS): They played together in two WCs: 1994 and 1998.

BROTHERS BRAINE, PIERRE AND RAYMOND (BELGIUM): The older brother Pierre played for Belgium in the 1930 WC while Raymond was part of the 1938 squad.

BROTHERS BRNOVIĆ, DRAGOLJUB AND BRANKO (YUGOSLAVIA): Dragoljub represented Yugoslavia in the 1990 WC in Italy while the other was part of FR Yugoslavia in 1998.

BROTHERS CHARLES, JOHN AND MEL (WALES): John is considered as one of the best Welsh players in their history. Both were members of the Welsh squad at the 1958 FIFA World Cup.

BROTHERS CHARLTON, BOBBY AND JACK (ENGLAND): Both Charltons were part of the winning squad in 1966 on home soil. The older one, Jack, was also in Mexico in 1970 alongside Bobby. Addition to that Jack was manager of Ireland in two WC finals: 1990 and 1994. Bobby was also an unused member of the 1958 squad and played in Chile four years later. 

BROTHERS CHILAVERT, ROLANDO AND JOSE (PARAGUAY): Rolando played in 1986 while his brother played in two WC finals: 1998 and 2002.

BROTHERS CHOI, YUNG-KEUN AND CHUNG-MIN (SOUTH KOREA): Brothers were part of the Korean squad in the 1954 World cup.

BROTHERS DISZTL, PETER AND LASZLO (HUNGARY): Peter, a goalkeeper, and Laszlo, a right back, played for Hungary in 1986, where the country failed to progress from the group stage.

BROTHERS ČAJKOVSKI, ZLATKO AND ŽELJKO (YUGOSLAVIA): Both brothers Čajkovski were in Brazil in 1950. The older one, Zlatko, also played in the world cup four years later.

BROTHERS DOS SANTOS, GIOVANI AND JONATHAN (MEXICO): Both were together in the last WC in Russia. Giovani also played in 2010 and 2014 editions.

BROTHERS EVARISTO, JUAN AND MARIO (ARGENTINA): Argentinians were part of the losing squad in the first ever World cup in 1930.

BROTHERS FLO, JOSTEIN AND TORE (NORWAY): The Norway national football team's most successful period was in the 1990s, playing in two WC finals: 1994 and 1998. Jostein was part of both those squads while Tore played in 1998.

BROTHERS FORSTER, BERND AND KARL-HEINZ (WEST GERMANY): Both played in Spain where their nation reached the final. Karl-Heinz also played in another losing final in 1986.

BROTHERS MUBARAK, KHALEEL GHANIM AND MUBARAK GHANIM (UAE): Both were part of the UAE squad in 1990.

BROTHERS GOMEZ, DARIO AND GABRIEL (COLOMBIA): Dario, a former footballer, never represented the national team. He was a manager in three World cups. First one in 1998 with his homeland, then for Ecuador four years later and the last one with Panama in Russia 2018. His brother Gabriel represented Colombia in two WCs: 1990 and 1994.

BROTHERS GONZALVO, JOSE AND MARIANO (SPAIN): Both represented Spain in Brazil 1950.

BROTHERS GUTIERREZ, RAFAEL AND FRANCISCO (MEXICO): The Gutierrez brothers were part of the Mexican squad in the first World cup.

TWIN BROTHERS HASSAN, IBRAHIM AND HOSSAM (EGYPT): Both played for Egypt in the 1990 World cup tournament.

BROTHERS HAWSAWI, OSAMA AND OMAR (SAUDI ARABIA): Brothers represented Arabia in the last World cup.

BROTHERS HAZARD, EDEN AND THORGAN (BELGIUM): The Belgians were together in Russia in 2018 while Hazard also played in the 2014 WC.

BROTHERS HOENESS, ULI AND DIETER (WEST GERMANY): The Hoeness brothers represented both Bayern and Germany. The older one, Uli, was part of the winning squad in 1974 on home soil. Dieter, as a veteran, played in Mexico in 1986 where Germany reached the final. 

TWIN BROTHERS INSFRAN, ELIGIO AND ELISEO (PARAGUAY): Twins played for Paraguay in Sweden 1958. 

BROTHERS JENSEN, NICLAS AND DANIEL (DENMARK): Niclas, the older one, played in 2002 while Daniel played in 2010.

BROTHERS KALOU, BONAVENTURE AND SALOMON (IVORY COAST): Both played for the national team and Feyenoord. Bonaventure played for Ivory Coast in their first ever WC in 2006. Younger brother played in the next two WC finals.

BROTHERS KOEMAN, ERWIN AND RONALD (NETHERLANDS): Famous Dutch brothers started their careers in Groningen where their father, Martin, also played. Both featured in the 1990 FIFA World cup and in addition Ronald also represented his nation in the USA four years later.

BROTHERS KOLEV, IVAN AND TODOR (BULGARIA): Ivan represented Bulgaria at both the 1962 and 1966 FIFA World cups. Todor continued his brother's tradition and played in Mexico in 1970. 

BROTHERS KORNER, ROBERT AND ALFRED (AUSTRIA): Both Rapid Vienna legends represented Austria at the 1954 WC where they finished third. Alfred played in the 1958 WC, as well.

BROTHERS KOVAČ, NIKO AND ROBERT (CROATIA): Famous Croatian brothers represented their nation in two WC finals: 2002 and 2006. Robert, the younger, has one cap more then Niko, 84 versus 83. Niko was also a first team manager in Brazil 2014.

BROTHERS KOZLICEK, ERNST AND PAUL (AUSTRIA): Kozlicek I (Ernst) and Kozlicek II (Paul) represented Austria in the 1958 WC.

BROTHERS LAUDRUP, MICHAEL AND BRIAN (DENMARK): Famous brothers played for Denmark in the 1998 WC final. Michael played in 1986, as well. 

BROTHERS LAURENT, JEAN AND LUCIEN (FRANCE): Brothers took part in the 1930 FIFA World cup. Lucien is famous for being the first ever WC goalscorer in the match against Mexico. He also played in Italy in 1934.

BROTHERS LEANDRE, JOSEPH AND FRITZ (HAITI): Both played for Haiti in their only World cup. It was in 1974.

BROTHERS MERRY, MUSTAPHA AND ABDELKRIM (MOROCCO): Merry brothers were part of the Moroccan squad in 1986.

BROTHERS MILITO, GABRIEL AND DIEGO (ARGENTINA): Except for the national team they played together in Zaragoza. Both played in only one tournament. Gabriel in 2006 and Diego in 2010.

BROTHERS MILLECAMPS, MARC AND LUC (BELGIUM): One-club men as both played for their entire career in Waregem. Marc and Luc represented Belgium in 1982.

BROTHERS MILUTINOVIĆ, MILOŠ, MILORAD AND BORA (YUGOSLAVIA): Legendary Yugoslavian brothers. The oldest one represented his nation in two WC finals: 1954 and 1958. Milorad was also part of the 1958 WC squad but never played any match for the national team. Like Milorad, Bora also never played for Yugoslavia but as a manager was part of five FIFA World cup finals. In the order: Mexico 1986, Costa Rica 1990, USA 1994, Nigeria 1998 and China 2002.

BROTHERS MPENZA, EMILE AND MBO (BELGIUM): The Mpenza brothers started their career in Kortrijk and both played in the 1998 World cup. The older one, Mbo, also played in 2002.

BROTHERS PALACIOS, JOHNNY, JERRY AND WILSON (HONDURAS): Football family as four brothers played football professionally and all of them represented Honduras. Three of them were part of the World cup: Johnny, Jerry and Wilson. The first trio of brothers to represent a single nation in the World cup. It was in 2010. Jerry and Wilson, probably the most famous of them as he played for Tottenham, were also part of the 2014 squad.

BROTHERS PRIETO, ANDRES AND IGNACIO (CHILE): Older, Andres, was in Brazil in 1950 while Ignacio played in 1966.

BROTHERS ROSAS, FELIPE AND MANUEL (MEXICO): Rosas were part of the Mexican squad in the 1930 WC played in Uruguay.

BROTHERS SOCRATES AND RAI (BRAZIL): Socrates, legendary Brazilian midfielder, played in both WCs held in the 1980s. His younger brother Rai played for the national team that won their fourth title in 1994.

BROTHERS ST. VIL, GUY AND ROGER (HAITI): Second pair of brothers to represent Haiti on their only WC in 1974.

BROTHERS TOURE, KOLO AND YAYA (IVORY COAST): Teammates for Manchester City and the national team. Ivory Coast played in three WCs: 2006, 2010 and 2014. Brothers were part of all three World cup squads.

TWIN BROTHERS VAN DE KERKHOF, RENE AND WILLY (NETHERLANDS): Famous twins from Dutch football. They were part of a great Netherlands team from the 1974 and 1978 FIFA World cups, in both reaching the final, and played together in Twente and PSV.

BROTHERS VAN DEN BOSCH, HIPPOLYTE AND PIETER (BELGIUM): Brothers were part of Belgium in the 1954 WC.

BROTHERS VAN DER ELST, FRANCOIS AND LEO (BELGIUM): The older, Francois, played in Spain in 1982 while Leo scored the penalty shootout decider against Spain in the quarter-final in 1986. 

TWIN BROTHERS VUJOVIĆ, ZLATKO AND ZORAN (YUGOSLAVIA): Famous twins of Yugoslavian football started their careers in Hajduk Split and later played together in Bordeaux, Cannes and Nice, as well for the national team. Both were included in the squad in the 1982 WC while Zlatko was also part of the 1990 WC squad.

BROTHERS WALTER, FRITZ AND OTTMAR (WEST GERMANY): First pair of WC winning brothers. It was in 1954 with Fritz being the captain of the squad. He also played in Sweden four years later.

BROTHERS WEILER, MAX AND WALTER (SWITZERLAND): Grasshoppers legends played together for Switzerland in the 1938 WC.

BROTHERS WITSCHGE, ROB AND RICHARD (NETHERLANDS): Both midfielders represented their nation in one WC each. The older one, Rob, was in the USA in 1994 while Richard was in Italia 1990.

BROTHERS YAKIN, MURAT AND HAKAN (SWITZERLAND): Murat played for Switzerland for ten years but wasn't called for their only World cup in that time, USA 1994. He is now manager of the national team for the WC in Qatar. The younger brother played for Swiss in two World cups: 2006 and 2010.

TWIN BROTHERS ZEWLAKOW, MARCIN AND MICHAL (POLAND): Polish twin brothers played together in the 2002 FIFA World cup. Michal also played four years later.

CLEBER CHALA AND SON IN LAW CHRISTIAN BENITEZ (ECUADOR): Chala played for Ecuador in the 2002 WC. Christian Benitez, who married his daughter, represented the national team at the next WC held in Germany. Chucho, what was his nickname, died in 2013 due to a cardiac arrest at the age of 27.

GRANDFRATHER AND GRANDSON, JULIO MUSSIMESI AND LIONEL MESSI (ARGENTINA): Not sure about this. Mussimesi was included in the Argentina squad for the 1958 WC. Messi played in four WC finals for Argentina being finalists in 2014. This year's WC would be his fifth.

ELOY CAMPOS AND GREAT NEPHEW NILSON LOYOLA (PERU): Eloy Campos was in the Peru squad for the 1970 WC. His great nephew Nilson was in Russia in 2018.

GARY KELLY AND NEPHEW IAN HARTE (IRELAND): Both teammates in Leeds and represented Ireland in the 2002 WC. Gary was also in the USA in 1994.

GEORGE BURLEY AND NEPHEW CRAIG BURLEY (SCOTLAND): Ipswich Town legend, George, was part of the 1982 WC squad. Craig played in 1998 WC finals.

JAMES RODRIGUEZ AND BROTHER IN LAW DAVID OPSINA (COLOMBIA): James married his teammate Ospina's sister Daniela. Both were in Brazil 2014 and Russia 2018.

JOSE ANDRADE AND NEPHEW VICTOR ANDRADE (URUGUAY): Both won the WC, Jose the first one in 1930 and Victor in 1950. Victor also played in 1954.

JOSE GONZALEZ GANOZA AND NEPHEW PAOLO GUERRERO (PERU): Ganoza was Peruvian backup goalkeeper for the 1982 World cup. Paolo, his nephew, played in 2018.

JUAN CARLOS CORAZZO, SON IN LAW PABLO FORLAND AND GRANDSON DIEGO FORLAN (URUGUAY): Corazzo coached the Uruguay team for the 1962 WC. Pablo represented the national team on two occasions: 1966 and 1974 while his son played in three WC finals: 2002, 2010 and 2014.

KNUT NORDAHL AND NEPHEW THOMAS NORDAHL (SWEDEN): Football family with three brothers Knut, Bertil and the most famous Gunnar. All three played for Sweden but only Knut was part of the World cup squad since two other brothers became professionals and went to play in Italy while Swedish league was still on amateur level. So Knut was part of the 1950 WC squad and Gunnar's son, Knut's nephew, Thomas, was included in 1970 WC squad.

MARADONA AND SON IN LAW SERGIO AGUERO (ARGENTINA): One of the best players in football history, Maradona, played in four WC finals and led Argentina to WC glory in 1986. Sergio married his daughter Giannina and represented his nation in three WCs.

MARIO BALOTELLI AND BROTHER IN LAW OBAFEMI MARTINS (ITALY / NIGERIA): Obafemi Martins, former Nigerian international who played in 2010 WC, married Mario's sister. Mario was part of Italy in the 2014 World cup.

FATHER AND SON BLIND, DANNY AND DALEY (NETHERLANDS): The older Blind appeared in two WCs: 1990 and 1994. His son played in 2014 where he won third place. 

FATHER AND SON ALONSO, MIGUEL AND XABI (SPAIN): Miguel, a former midfielder, represented his naion in 1982 on home soil. His two sons also played football. Xabi, midfielder as well, followed his father's footsteps and also represented Real Sociedad and Spain. Xabi, a WC winner from 2010, also played in 2006 and 2014. 

FATHER AND SON ALEXANDRE GUIMARAES AND CELSO BORGES (COSTA RICA): Guimaraes played for Costa Rica in their first ever WC in 1990. He was also a national team manager in 2002 and 2006 World cups. His son Celso played in the 2014 and 2018 editions.

FATHER AND SON ABEDZADEH, AHMADREZA AND AMIR (IRAN): Both goalkeepers. Reza played for Iran in 1998 while Amir was a back-up in 2018.

FAMILY HERNANDEZ, TOMAS BALCAZAR AND JAVIER HERNANDEZ (MEXICO): Tomas Balcazar, a Mexican striker, played for his nation in the 1954 World cup. The older Javier, Balcazar's son in law, was part of the 1986 squad while his son also named Javier played in three WC finals: 2010, 2014 and 2018.

FAMILY BUFFON, LORENZO AND GIANLUIGI (ITALY): Lorenzo, AC Milan legend, was captain of the 1962 WC team. Lorenzo is a cousin of Gianluigi's grandfather. Gianluigi, also a goalkeeper, won the World cup in 2006 and was part of four more WC squads, from 1998 to 2014.

FAMILY ANDERSSON, FATHER ROY AND SONS DANIEL AND PATRICK (SWEDEN): A Malmo legend, Roy, represented Sweden on 20 occasions and played in the 1978 WC cup. He fathered two sons, both footballers and national team players. Both, Patrik and Daniel, were together in Korea/Japan in 2002. The older son was also part of the third place winning squad in USA 1994 while Daniel was in Germany in 2006.

MILENKO AČIMOVIČ AND BROTHER IN LAW DEJAN STANKOVIĆ (SLOVENIA / SERBIA): 

Stankovic married Milenko's sister Ana. Both were born in former Yugoslavia and later represented their nations in the World cup. Milenko played for Slovenia in their first ever WC in 2002. Dejan Stanković, a legendary midfielder for Red Star, Lazio, and Inter, was part of three WC squads: 1998, 2006 and 2010.

FATHER AND SON BRADLEY, BOB AND MICHAEL (USA): Bob was a head coach of the 2010 WC squad where his son Michael played in all four matches of the team. He also played in the WC four years later.

FATHER AND SON CHA, BUM-KUN AND DU-RI (SOUTH KOREA): A legendary Korean footballer Bum-kun is the most capped player and top scorer in the nation's history. He played for Korea in one WC and was manager in another one. 1986 and 1998. Du-ri followed his father's footsteps and played in the German Bundesliga as well for the national team. He was part of two WC squads: 2002 and 2010.

FATHER AND SON COSTLY, ANTHONY AND CARLOS (HONDURAS): The older Costly played for Honduras in the 1982 World cup. Carlo played for them 32 years after his father. It was in Brazil in 2014.

FATHER AND SON DOMINGOS DA GUIA AND ADEMIR (BRAZIL): Domingos played in Brazil all four matches at the 1938 WC. Ademir, Palmeiras legend, played for Brazil in the 1974 FIFA World cup.

FATHER AND SON DJORKAEFF, JEAN AND YOURI (FRANCE): Jean, a defender, was part of the 1966 squad. His son was part of the 1998 winning squad but also played in 2002.

FATHER AND SON GEMMILL, ARCHIE AND SCOT (SCOTLAND): Father Archie, who was part of the legendary Nottingham Forest side from the late 70s, played in the 1978 WC and scored one of the best goals in tournaments history. Scot, who started his career with Forest, played for Scotland for eight years representing them in the 1998 WC.

FATHER AND SON IOMAR MAZINHO AND THIAGO ALCANTARA (BRAZIL / SPAIN): Mazinho earned 35 caps with Brazil and was in the 1990 and 1994 WC editions. A World cup winner has two sons, Thiago Alcantara and Rafinha, both footballers. Thiago is Brazilian but was born in Italy and grew-up in Spain. He could play for all three nations but he chose Spain and represented them at the last WC in 2018. Younger brother Rafinha played only two matches for Brazil.

FATHER AND SON JAN KOZAK (CZECHOSLOVAKIA / SLOVAKIA): The older Jan played for Czechoslovakia in 1982. Kozak "Junior" was part of the Slovakian debut WC squad in 2010.

FATHER AND SON KRANJČAR, ZLATKO AND NIKO (CROATIA): Yugoslavian international from the 70s and 80s was the Croatian national team manager for the 2006 WC. In that World cup, his son Niko played in all three group stage matches. Both started their careers in Dinamo Zagreb. The older Kranjčar also played two matches for the newly formed Croatian football team in 1990.

FATHER AND SON LINDEROTH, ANDERS AND TOBIAS (SWEDEN): A teammates from 1978 also saw their sons as teammates in 2002. It's, ofcourse, the Andersson and Linderoth family. So, as you can conclude, Anders played for Sweden in the 1978 WC. Except 2002, Tobias also played in 2006.

FATHER AND SON LUIS REGUEIRO (SPAIN / MEXICO): The older Luis, who played as a forward, played for Spain in the 1934 WC in Italy. After the start of the Spanish Civil War he moved to Mexico where his son, also named Luis, was born. Luis Jr. was part of the Mexican squad for a WC in England in 1966.

FATHER AND SON LUPESCU, NICOLAE AND IOAN (ROMANIA): Nicolae played in one WC tournament (1970) while his son played in two (1990 and 1994).

FATHER AND SON MALDINI, CESARE AND PAOLO (ITALY): Both defenders and Milan legends also represented their nation in the World cup. Father Cesare took part in the 1962 WC playing in two matches. In 1996, he replaced Sacchi as a national team manager and led them to the 1998 WC in France. Four years later he was Paraguay national team manager in Korea/Japan. Paolo, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest defenders of all time, played for Azzurri in four WCs: from 1990 to 2002 losing a final in 1994.

FATHER AND SON MAVUBA, MAFUILA AND RIO (ZAIRE / FRANCE): Defensive midfield played for Zaire (today's DR Congo) in their only WC in 1974. Mafuila, after his football career, moved to Angola and then at the start of the civil war moved to France. His son Rio was born during a trip to France, on a boat in international waters. So for Rio's place of birth you can see "born at sea". The older Mavuba lived in France as a refugee until his death in 1996. Rio was 12 years old and had already lost his mother at the age of 2. He started his career with Bordeaux and played for France in the 2014 World cup.

FATHER AND SON MONTERO, JULIO AND PAOLO (URUGUAY): Julio represented the Uruguay national football team in the 1970 and 1974 FIFA World cups. Paolo, former defender, played for his nation in the 2002 WC.

FATHER AND SON PEREZ, LUIS AND MARIO (MEXICO): Luis Perez was part of the Mexican squad at the first ever World cup in 1930. His son Mario played for the country in the WC forty years later. On home soil in 1970.

FATHER AND SON PETKOVIĆ, ILIJA AND DUŠAN (SERBIA): A former midfielder and Yugoslavian international played for his nation in West Germany in the 1974 WC. Ilija, later as a manager, led Serbia and Montenegro to the 2006 WC. He caused a lot of controversy ahead of the tournament when he named his son Dušan in the final squad as a replacement for injured Mirko Vučinić.

FATHER AND SON REINA, MIGUEL AND PEPE (SPAIN): Both, father and son, were goalkeepers and also played for Barcelona and represented the national team, as well. Miguel earned only five caps for Spain and was a reserve GK for the 1966 WC. Jose Manuel "Pepe" was in four WC finals but played in only two matches as he was mainly back-up goalkeeper. He was in squads from 2006 to 2018. WC winner in 2010.

FATHER AND SON RIO, ROGER AND PATRICE (FRANCE): Roger played in the second WC in 1934. Patrice was a member of a French squad that competed at the 1978 FIFA World cup.

FATHER AND SON SANCHIS, MANUEL AND MANOLO (SPAIN): Both named Manuel and played for Real Madrid and Spain. The older Manolo played at the 1966 WC where he scored his only international goal. His son, better known as Manolo, appeared at the 1990 WC in Italy.

FATHER AND SON SCHMEICHEL, PETER AND KASPER (DENMARK): Both very great goalkeepers who played in the English Premier League and, except the national team, represented Manchester City. Peter played in France 1998 and Kasper 20 years later, Russia 2018.

FATHER AND SON SMOLAREK, WLODZIMIERZ AND EUZEBIUSZ (POLAND): The older Smolarek represented Poland on 60 occasions and was part of two WC squads: 1982, winning third place, and 1986. Ebi was part of the Polish squad at the 2006 FIFA WC.

FATHER AND SON VENTOLRA, MARTI AND JOSE (SPAIN / MEXICO): Almost like the Luis Regueiro family, from before. Marti was Luis' teammate from the Spain squad from the 1934 WC squad. Both, due to the Spanish Civil War, emigrated to Mexico. Their sons were also teammates playing for the Mexican national team. As already said, Luis Regueiro Jr., was in the 1966 WC squad while Jose, Marti's son, played for Mexico in 1970 on home soil.

FATHER AND SON VERHEYEN, JAN AND GERT (BELGIUM): Both Jan and Gert, played for Belgium and Anderlecht. Father was part of the 1970 World cup squad while son played in two: 1998 and 2002.

FATHER AND SON VLADIMIR WEISS (CZECHOSLOVAKIA / SLOVAKIA): Three generations of footballers. All three of them, grandfather, father and son, named Vladimir Weiss and represented their national team. The oldest Vladimir played only three matches for Czechoslovakia and wasn't in the World cup. His son, or the middle Vladimir, played in the 1990 WC for Czechoslovakia and later led Slovakia to their only WC in 2010 where his son, the youngest Vladimir, played in three matches.

COUSINS AYOVI, WALTER AND JAIME (ECUADOR): Both cousins represented Ecuador in 2014 while Walter was also a member of the squad in 2002.

COUSINS DAVID SUAZO AND HENDRY THOMAS (HONDURAS): Both were in South Africa in 2010. Despite being about six years younger, Hendry Thomas looks much older in this picture.

COUSINS EMIR SPAHIĆ AND EDIN DŽEKO (BIH): Former Bosnian teammates are first cousins. Both played for the national team in their only WC in Brazil 2014.

COUSINS FERDINAND, LES AND RIO (ENGLAND): Together, they were part of the 1998 WC squad. Rio also played in the next two editions: 2002 and 2006.

COUSINS FERNANDES, MANUEL AND GELSON (PORTUGAL / SWITZERLAND): Both of Cape Verde descent, with Gelson playing for Switzerland and Manuel for Portugal. Gelson represented Switzerland in three editions: 2010, 2014 and 2018 while Manuel played only in the last.

COUSINS HANDANOVIĆ, JASMIN AND SAMIR (SLOVENIA): Both cousins are goalkeepers and were part of the Slovenian squad in South Africa in 2010. The older one Jasmin, who is now retired, was a back-up to Samir.

COUSINS INCE, PAUL AND CLAYTON (ENGLAND / TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO): Paul played for England in 1998. Clayton, a goalkeeper, was part of the T&T 2006 WC squad.

COUSINS MARK VIDUKA AND LUKA MODRIĆ (AUSTRALIA / CROATIA): Mark Viduka, who played for Australia in Germany 2006, is of Croatian descent. His cousin is Croatian Luka Modrić who represented the national team in three WC tournaments leading them to the final in the last one in 2018.

SAFET SUŠIĆ AND NEPHEW TINO-SVEN (YUGOSLAVIA / BIH): A football family since two brothers, Sead and Safet, played football, as well, Sead's son, Tino-Sven. Both brothers represented Yugoslavia but only Safet played in the World cup. It was in 1982 and 1990. Sead played only one match for the national team. As a manager, Safet led Bosnia and Herzegovina to their only WC. It was in Brazil in 2014 where his nephew, Tino-Sven, played in two matches.

TOMMY SVENSSON AND NEPHEW JOACHIM BJORKLUND (SWEDEN): Tommy Svensson was both, national team footballer and later manager. Played in the 1970 WC and was manager of a third place winning squad in 1994. His nephew Joachim was part of that team playing in six matches.

STELIOS MANOLAS AND NEPHEW KOSTAS (GREECE): Stelios was part of the Greek first ever WC team in 1994. His nephew played in the 2014 edition, exactly 20 years later.

DIMITAR PENEV AND NEPHEW LYUBOSLAV (BULGARIA): Legendary Bulgarian defender, Dimitar, played 90 matches for his nation and was part of three WC squads: 1966, 1970 and 1974. He was also a national team manager in the 90s leading them to a fourth place in USA 1994. Dimitar's nephew was part of Bulgarian squad at the 1998 WC but he wasn't manager of the team.

VALDOMIRO AND GRANDNEPHEW MAICON (BRAZIL): Valdomiro, Internacional legend being their all time most appearance player, played for Brazil in the 1974 WC. Macion, his great nephew, played in two WCs: 2010 and 2014.

WALTER GARGANO AND BROTHER IN LAW MAREK HAMŠIK (URUGUAY /SLOVAKIA): Napoli teammates. Walter married Marek's sister, Michaela. Both players were part of their nation squads for the 2010 WC. Walter was also in 2014.

RIGOBERT SONG AND NEPHEW ALEX SONG (CAMEROON): Both represented their nation in the World cup in South Africa. Current national team manager, Rigobert, was also part of three more WC squads: 1994, 1998 and 2002. Alex also played in 2014.

BROTHERS HERNANDEZ, LUCAS AND THEO (FRANCE): Both brothers are product of Atletico Madrid youth school and both play as a left-back. Their father Jean-Francois was also a footballer. Both will represent France in this year's, 2022, World cup. The older brother Lucas was also part of the winning squad in 2018.

BROTHERS IBARRA, RENATO AND ROMARIO (ECUADOR): Renato was part of the Ecuador squad in 2014 while Romario is part of the Qatar 2022 WC.

BROTHERS MILINKOVIĆ-SAVIĆ, SERGEJ AND VANJA (SERBIA): Both brothers were born in Spain where their father played football professionally in the 1990s. Savić brothers were called-up for the WC in Qatar. Sergej also played in Russia four years ago.

BROTHERS WILLIAMS, INAKI AND NICO (GHANA / SPAIN): Williams brothers were born in Spain and both play for Athletic Bilbao. Older one, Inaki, represented Spain in a friendly match in 2016. In 2022 he announced that he is available for Ghana to play in the 2022 WC tournament. Inaki made his debut in the same year and was called-up for the WC finals. His younger brother made debut for Spain in the actual year and was called-up for the WC.

FRANCISCO GENTO AND GREATNEPHEW MARCOS LLORENTE (SPAIN): Francisco Gento represented Spain in two World cup finals: 1962 and 1966. His nephew Paco Llorente, former Atletico and Real Madrid player is the father of Marcos. The younger Llorente was called-up for the 2022 FIFA World cup.

FATHER AND SON REASCO, NEICER AND DJORKAEFF (ECUADOR): Former defender, Neicer, was part of the Ecuador national team that competed at the 2006 WC. His son, named after Youri Djorkaeff, made the national team debut last year and will represent his nation in Qatar.

FATHER AND SON REYNA, CLAUDIO AND GIOVANNI (USA): Claudio represented the USA in more than 100 matches and was part of the four WC squads: from 1994 to 2006. This will be the first World cup for his son Giovanni.

HALF-BROTHERS CARLOS SANCHEZ AND NICOLAS DE LA CRUZ (URUGUAY): Both played for Liverpool Montevideo and River Plate. Carlos was part of the 2018 WC squad. Nicolas will play in Qatar.

FATHER AND SON THURAM, LILIAN AND MARCUS (FRANCE): Lilian was one of the France heroes from the 1998 WC winning squad with two goals in the semi-final versus Croatia. His only two goals for the national team. He also played in the 2002 and 2006 FIFA World cups. His son, Marcus, was called-up for the 2022 WC in Qatar.
