1974 Poland finished first in their group with Argentina, Italy and Haiti. They
won all three matches. In second group stage Poland played with Sweden,
Yugoslavia and West Germany. They won first two matches while they lost in 3rd
from W. Germany. Poland took second place and it meant that they are going to
play match for 3rd place. Runner-up in second group was Brazil. Poland was
better with one goal from Grzegorz Lato. With 7 goals Lato was top scorer of
the tournament and Poland best player.
