will be 13th. They refused to participate in 1934 and 1938.
BEST RESULT: Uruguay is first host nation but also a first
World Cup champion. In 1930 WC final they beat Argentina 4-2. They became a
champion once again in 1950 (on picture). At that tournament "final" they were better then
host nation Brazil with one goal win 2-1. Despite they were losing and Brazil
needed only one point to become a champion (different tournament format)
Uruguay reverse the match with goals from Schiaffino and Ghiggia. This World
Cup final is known under term Maracanazo (The Maracana Blow).
