Associação Chapecoense de Futebol is Brazilian football
club based in city of Chapeco in the state of Santa Catarina. Club Chapecoense
was founded in 1973 after the merge of Atletico Chapecoense and Independiente. In
1977 they won their first title the Santa Catarina State Championship. In next
season they competed for first time in Brazilian Serie A and played there for
two seasons, 1978 and 1979. For next Serie A season they had to wait till 2014.
They finished 15th and earned their place in second stage of Copa Sudamericana.
Later, in knockout stage of the tournament, they lost from River Plate in
quaterfinal. In next season of Serie A they finished one place above then last
year and as in previous season earned their place in second stage of Copa
Sudamericana. In Copa Sudamericana they went all way to the final. In Roud of
16 they kicked out Independiente after PKs then Columbian Atletico Junior in
quarterfinal. They lost first match with one goal but managed to win 3-0 in
second leg. In semifinal they had to face another Argentinian club San Lorenzo.
Both matches finished without a winner. In first match played in Argentina each
club scored one goal. Second match was without goals and Chape went to final
becouse of away goal rules. Same happened in other semifinal matches between
Cerro Porteno and Atletico Nacional. Nacional went to final becouse of away
goal. Copa Sudamericana final is consised of two matches. First leg should be
played 30th of November. On the evening of 28 November flight that was carrying
staff and players from Chapecoense plus some other people crashed near
Medellin. 71 people died (from 77) including almost entire first team, coaches,
journalists etc. After the plane crash both final matches were suspended. Atletico
Nacional whanted title to be awarded to Brazilian club which CONMEBOL did.
This is not the only plain crash which includ football team. For example Torino in 1949, Manchester United in 1958, Zambia national football team in 1993...
Chapecoense Panini Campeonato Brasileiro 2016:
Marcos Danilo Padilha (goalkeeper, 31): First Chapecoense keeper. He was one of the semifinal heroes becouse he saved a last minute attempt from San Lorenzo. He played more then 150 matches for the club. He survived plane crash but died in hospital.
Marcelo Boeck (goalkeeper): Becouse of his B-day he didn't traveled to the first match of the Copa Sudamericana final. In 2017 he jointed Fortaleza.
Jose Nivaldo Martins Constante (goalkeeper): Nivaldo jointed Chapecoense in 2006. He wasn't selected for this match becouse he was preparing for league match against Atletico Mineiro. That should be his 300 match for the club but after plane crash he announced his retirement.
Guilherme Gimenez de Souza (right-back, 21): He jointed Chape in 2016 and become a regular player with 51 match in his only season.
Helio Hermito Zampier Neto (centre-back): He is one of the several survivors. He continued his career with Capecoense.
Willian Thiego de Jesus (centre-back, 30): He jointed Chape in 2015. He also played for Gremio and in Japan and Azerbaijan league. 84 matches for the club.
Dener Assuncao Braz (left-back, 25): As Willian Thiego he also jointed Chape in 2015. 119 matches for the club.
Cleber Santana Loureiro (central midfielder, 35): He was one of the most experienced players in Chape team. He played for Brazilian giants such as: Santos, Sao Paulo and Flamengo but he also played in Europe for Atletico Madrid and Mallorca. He played 95 matches for Chapecoense.
Jose Gildeixon Clemente de Paiva "Gil" (defensive midfielder, 29): Previously he played for 7 Brazilian clubs before joining Chape in 2015. He played 96 matches there.
Josimar Rosado da Silva Tavares (defensive midfielder, 30): He jointed Chape from Internacional in 2016 and played 50 matches.
Ananias Eloi Castro Monteiro (striker, 27): He played for Cruzeiro and Palmeiras. Chape bought him in 2015. 92 matches for the club.
Bruno Rangel Domingues (striker, 34): One of the Chape best players. He was in the club since 2013.
Everton Kempes dos Santos Goncavles (striker, 34): He played for many Brazilian clubs and in Japan league. In his only season with Chape he played 53 matches.
Lucas Gomes da Silva (striker, 26): He played for many small Brazilian clubs before joining Chapecoense from Fluminense. In his only season he played 55 matches.
Francinilson Santos Meirelles "Maranhao": He wasn't part of Chape at that time.
Rafael Ramos de Lima (centre-back): He wasn't in the flight. He is not anymore Chape player.
Filipe Jose Machado (centre-back, 32): He played in Spain Segunda Division, for CSKA Sofia, Italian Salernitana... He jointed Chape in 2016.
Sergio Manoel Barbosa Santos (defensive midfielder, 27): He played for many small teams in Brazil before joining Chapecoense in 2016 and played 26 matches.
Matheus Bitencourt da Silva "Matheus Biteco" (defensive midfielder, 21): Product of Gremio youth school. He was also part of German side Hoffenhaim but didn't played any match for them. He jointed Chape in 2016. 24 matches for the club. He was part of Brazil U20 and U21. He won Toulon Turnament in 2013.
Arthur Brasiliano Maia (attacking midfielder, 24): He last played for Kawasaki Frontale before joining Chape in 2016. 23 matches for the club.
Other Chapecoense players:
Luis Carlos Saroli "Caio Junior" (coach, 51): Chapecoense coach and former footballer who mainly played in Brazilian and Portuguese league. He was appointed as Chape coach in 2016.
Jakson Ragnar Follmann (goalkeeper): He is one of the three Chape players who survived. He has one leg amputated. He now have prosthetic leg. He played only one match for the club.
Thiago da Rocha Vieira "Tiaguinho" (striker, 22): He played for some small teams before Chape hired him in 2016. He played only 23 matches.
Ailton Cesar Junior Alves da Silva (striker, 22): He played for several small teams in Brazil before joining Chape in 2016. 6 matches for the club.
Mateus Lucena dos Santos "Mateus Caramelo" (right-back, 22): Played for Sao Paulo. Only 6 matches for Chapecoense.
Alan Luciano Ruschel (left-back): Another played who survived plane crash. He is Internacional player on loan in Chape.
